Caliban’s Weblog
Just another WordPress.com weblogFourth of July 2008
It has been a long week and I have not had much time to write.
Today it Friday 4th of July 2008. Something about the magic of going to see the fireworks still hold the magic it did when I was a kid. Never got into the Personal fireworks stuff. I saw too many people get hurt and heard stories from my mom, a pediatric nurse.
My cousins were very much into the ‘whole’ fireworks stuff and the effects are very clear today – Loss of Hearing is the order of the day. How sad for a stupid M80 or whatever.
The day is early and looks to be great; touch of clouds, 75 degrees.
The plan is to take the puppy, 4 months old now, to lake Lanier for swim. The puppy(ruby) is very much a puppy and still runs to meet kids and passing runners. Ruby loves to meet folks.
When TV was simple! And Life was less complex!
A Rather Melancholy Sunday with my thoughts wondering everywhere; Sheila is in Joliet visiting family!
My brother sent me great site today and I had the chance to see some favorite Black & White of Twilight Zone.
Harry and I were just talking about the lazy days of summer. When all you needed to do was enjoy the time off from school.
I luv those memories. Simple times. You had your bike and might ride to the Pond to fish or go to hickory creek to catch ‘crawfish’ for bait. Sometime I would get a ‘K-O Choc’ Soda from the machine in front of the Walona Motel on RT30; near New Lenox. I sure did but the mile on the bike!
I spent a lot of time by myself. Closet Friend was Lou and still friends 45Years later. He lives in HI and does police work. Kinda of odd too in that Lou would have to arrest himself for some of the stupid stunts he did!
Summer was slow and simple. Wish I would have had sun screen. I amazed that my ‘white’ Irish skin is not more fried.
Our Dad died in a car accident when I was 9 years old. Guess we never really understood, as kids, how that really changed the course of our lives. The summers really did change after that!
I am very fortunate to have gotten a college education, met a good women, and raised (almost done) a great family 2 Girls and 1 Boy; Hayley, Bret, and Alexandra. Each as different as snowflakes! Who would have ever guessed!
I wonder about their future and happiness. I now live in Northern Atlanta and really do not miss all the COLD in Joliet Ill. I do miss having the kids close. Would luv to play golf with Bret every day or go to a movie with Hayley! Still not sure about Ms. Alex. Would luv to take her flying or play racquetball.
Just all the ‘things’ that create priceless memories and like the Twilight Zone said: It is not the past rather the FUTURE!
But I do ENJOY the memories and hope those things live on somehow.
